YG Big Bang and KBS, who’s stronger… neither side will win

Published 2011-03-04 12:01

Not to say the comeback stage that YG Entertainment and KBS have for BigBang, they are conducting a psychological warfare. Taking this opportunity, the conflict between large entertainment companies and broadcasting companies are floating onto the surface.

With regards to BigBang’s appearance on KBS 2TV ‘Music Bank’ after having released an album in 2 years and 3 months, both parties are saying a different story. “Music Bank’ expressed that YG has requested for special treatment for BigBang, and YG claimed that they would want a stage no other like all the other artistes which allows them to sing about 2-3 songs.

KBS and YG, harbor dissatisfaction that BigBang was a backup nominee for end of last year’s ‘Viewers’ Selected 2010 Best Song’ and from the time they refused to make appearance at ‘KBS Song Festival’, it evoked much conflicts. Especially when BigBang had a 1 hour comeback show on SBS, all the more the dissatisfaction brewed.

Broadcasting companies and management companies are always in the midst of honeymoon and antagonism. Seo TaeJi’s group ‘Seo TaeJi and Boys’, debuted in 1992 on ‘Special TV Performance’ a corner called ‘Stage for New Song’ and since then formed an affinity with MBC. Even after he had become solo artist, he has for several times made special comeback stage at MBC.

On the other hand, duo ‘DBSK’ and group ‘SNSD’ and so forth who is under the management of SM Entertainment, had hostile relationships with MNET Media. SM and MNET, in 2008, arouse the start of a collision because of an issue of music distribution. Since then, in 2009, SM amplified that a music program show ‘MAMA’ that was hosted by MNET, lacked of a sense of fairness and thus disallowed the attendance of all artists that’s under SM Entertainment.

Furthermore, the conflict intensed when MNET invited JYJ’s Junsu,Yuchun and Jaejoong who was in the midst of a court battle with SM Entertainment to ‘MAMA’ in 2009. Even at the ‘MAMA’ show that was held in Macau last year during end November, none of the SM artists attended the event. But recently, MNET said, “We apologise and promise not to have the recurrence of having distribute any music material without prior concent from SM” and start anew with no one will remain an enemy forever if it’s a place with good gains.

Big entertainment companies are strong. On the 1st, one of CJ E&M (CJ Entertainment Media)’s subsidiary, MNET is a big media company. They own most of the cable channels and as much as music shows broadcasts, they are said to be terrestrial. They receive an apology from SM for having a continuous fight with this kind of company. There are a lot of people saying that the possible chances that the appearance of JYJ on shows is not smooth is because SM is exerting forces behind their backs.

The power of big management companies can also be seen from when JYP Entertainment’s Park JinYoung chased out Group 2pm’s Park JaeBum and it’s only after his apology had been accepted could he have a series of activities. Park JinYoung had sent a document to ‘The Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organization of Korea’ to  request for favorable arrangements for him to continue his activities only after JaeBum had made an apology at his FanCafe saying, “I still feel apologetic to JYP’s PD Park JinYoung who had supported me materially and emotionally for causing him to feel disappointment in me.”

Big broadcasting companies are almighty. But SM, YG and JYP are growing themselves like the physique of a dinosaur with the principal of monopolizing the industry. And other resources like YouTube which opens up another window that provides interaction with fans have become more diversified. Even if it’s not a broadcasting company, there are still other sources that can be relied on.

With that, those artists who are under small management companies who are not that famous are facing having their talents buried. ‘Music Bank’ is after all only one out of the 3 broadcasters of music programs. Although there would be 4 if we were to add in MNET’s ‘M Countdown’, if it was taken into consideration that a count of about 15 teams will appear, it will be absurdly insufficient. If an artist from one of the bigger management company is to make a comeback, this number would then be reduced.

KBS 2TV ‘YooHeeYeol’s Sketchbook’ or EBS TV ‘EBS Space’ are music shows that has been airing for the sake of allowing talented musicians to show off their talents.

Through an anonymity identity, a viewer had expressed worry heaving a sigh saying, “The conflicts that’s happening between the broadcasting companies and management companies will eventually cause the Kpop World to malfunction.” and “If both parties have good relations, there will be programs created for the sake of those artists and if that is not so, both parties will only be wasting their efforts trying to fight each other.” Eventually, “Those singers who are less famous will be the ones suffering having to be judge mental of the whole issue.”

Update 4 – I will be accepting pre-orders starting MARCH 11TH (Friday).

Thanks to everyone’s interest, I can start taking preorders a bit earlier and ship orders out to international fans a bit faster!

Again, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH EVERYONE! :D

UPDATE 3 – If I get more than 100 people interested in at least one of the items, I am planning to start taking pre-orders on March 16th.

Thanks for your support everyone! :D

*Update 2 – I will be shipping internationally :D*

*Update – cell phone strap option has been added*

* A Lot of people have been asking about how paypal works.

Basically, when you sign up with Paypal (yes, it’s free :D), you link either your bank account or your credit/debit card to your paypal account. You can then use your paypal account to send money to another person (me, in this case). The money comes out of your bank account or credit/debit card, and what Paypal basically does, is it allows you to SECURELY send your cash without the recipient having access to your personal bank/credit card information.

In other words, paypal is a secure money-transferring site and if you are familiar with the site e-bay, paypal is how most sellers receive payment for their items.

If you’ve never used paypal before, don’t worry :D. I will have a step-by-step guide once it is time for me to start taking pre-orders.*

Hi everyone! :D

With the news on JYJ’s World Tour Concert finally being available, I wanted to go ahead and start on a project that I’ve always been interested in doing.

I’m planning on selling personally designed JYJ fan goods for the World Tour and would like to get an estimate on how many people might me interested.

I have three items I am currently planning to make. They are:

1) T-shirt

2) LED Light Stick

3) Key Chain/cell phone strap

The price for the items will depend on how many order requests I get, but I’m estimating that for 1 T-shirt + 1 LED Light stick/Key Chain will cost about 12~15 dollars .

Here are the designs:

1) T-shirt

Close-up of the design:

2. LED Light Stick

I plan to have this design on the light stick:

and the design will most likely be on this type of light stick in RED:

3) Key Chain/cell phone strap

The key chain/cell phone strap will be made of a rubber-like material…

kind of like this:

(but with my design, not baby mickey ^^;)

The cell phone strap option will have a strap to attach onto your phone instead of  the key ring.

Payments will be accepted via paypal and the items will be shipped from the United States (yes, I will accept international orders).

Please vote ONLY if you are REALLY interested in purchasing the items.

The prices listed are an ESTIMATE. It may increase/decrease depending on number of orders.

(Please note that I really need to get an accurate estimate of orders in order to continue on with the project. So please only vote if you are really interested and please vote only once!)

I’m really excited about doing this (it’s always been my dream to design fan goods!) and I hope other fans will be interested as well.

I am not doing this to make a profit and the money I have left over (…and I really don’t plan on having anything left over) from this project will be used ONLY to continue supporting JYJ.

Thanks for your interest! :D

‘”Knee Drop Guru” produced by “SM BC“‘…”If JYJ doesn’t appear on the show, SM’s external pressure theory must be true”

Published March 3, 2011

[Kuki Entertainment] MBC’s ‘The Golden Fishery – Knee Drop Guru’ (Knee Drop Guru) is an entertainment show that has been running out of its fresh juice. Some viewers even say that the composition of the program is so repetitive that it’s boring and trite. Although the show has been running for a long time, thanks to the unusual concept of resolving the guest’s concern, the sharp, biting remarks and the eccentric tension of the show from the early days have mostly faded away. What’s been left behind is the thoughtless emotional resonance, that is sometimes eval!uated as indiscreet exoneration, implicated in Kang Ho Dong’s constantly repeated punch line, “Shall Live Forever.”

Although the initial sharpness has mostly worn out, the driving force that kept “Knee Drop Guru” on air for almost over 4 years still exists. The sincere efforts of the staff to cast its guests and communicate with them is the ultimate forte of “Knee Drop Guru.” The filming of the show itself lasts almost 4 hours is clearly distinguished from other entertainment shows that proceed its recordings in a studio.

The staff fully devotes themselves to the guest starting from the very beginning steps in the production. This guest is usually a celebrity who is rarely exposed to the mass media. Many social figures who are distant from the entertainment world such as An Cheol Su, Kalin Park, or Park Kyung Chul are often invited on the show. In addition to this, vast amount of research that remind people of a newspaper exclusive interviews and the guts to ask the most sensitive issues about the guest upfront is the ‘killer’ contents that cover up for “Knee Drop Guru”‘s triteness.

Maybe that is why the recent TVXQ episode of “Knee Drop Guru” that aired on March 2, 2011 has been met with such violent reaction from the viewers. Neither the efforts to cast the guest nor the proper attitude to communicate with the guest could be found on the show. TVXQ has been reorganized into a duo due to the recent legal dispute between JYJ and SME over the exclusive contract and have been making tremendous number of appearances on the national TV networks. The words are out that SME is promoting the band as if SME’s life depended on it.  A TV commercial for the promotion for the new album was unprecedentedly aired on national TV channels. Thus, TVXQ is far off from the pool of celebrities “Knee Drop Guru’ would usually invite who are ‘rarely’ seen on TV.

It is also dubious that the person directly involved in the legal dispute appeared on the show. The latest trend on the variety shows have been emphasizing a sort of a ‘selling out of the memories’ about the mistakes made in the past. However, most shows still choose to keep silent about an on-going legal dispute, since they cannot be free from the criticisms of being partial to a specific party’s claims.

Yet, “Knee Drop Guru” thoroughly covered the JYJ situation in TVXQ’s perspective. Max Changmin defined the juncture in which JYJ applied for the provisional injunction to terminate the exclusive contract as “the time when we only had to harvest the fruits.” In effect, he indirectly criticized JYJ who left the team calling profit distribution into question.

JYJ fandom is explicitly pressuring “Knee Drop Guru.” The viewers’ forum is flooded with threads requesting JYJ’s appearance on the show. Other entertainment internet communities are not so different. Tweets pointing out “Knee Drop Guru”‘s bias is constantly being retweeted on Twitter. The problem is that even the general public who has no interest in the JYJ situation that divided TVXQ into ’2VXQ’ and ’3VXQ’ is starting to lean toward the partiality theory.

Remedy to the situation is rather very simple: allow JYJ an opportunity to object. Presently, JYJ have only been making appearances on cultural programs and not on entertainment shows. Whether they choose not to, or are not able to is not that important. At least at this point, JYJ is way ahead of TVXQ in the scarcity component. So, inviting JYJ on the show is exactly in alignment with “Knee Drop Guru”‘s production purpose to cast stars who are rarely seen on the television. JYJ’s sobbing stories that will satisfy the “Knee Drop Guru”‘s need for an emotional resonance is rather formidable.

If “Knee Drop Guru” neglects its efforts to have JYJ appear on the show or even in casting JYJ, the public has no other choice but to take “SM’s external pressure theory” that has been so often raised as the cause that hinders JYJ’s appearances on television seriously. A full-scale dispute regarding bias of “TVXQ” episode can also be initiated. That is why people are closely watching how “Knee Drop Guru” responds to JYJ fandom’s “SM BC” claim.
